Why a Normal Process Becomes Abnormal

Unmasking Abnormal PMS Symptoms

Have you ever wondered why a normal bodily process can cause so much pain when other normal processes do not? Mild irritability, slight fever, and fatigue or trouble sleeping are typical during the premenstrual period. However, debilitating mood changes such as intense depression, rage, anxiety, extreme cramping, or migraines are not.

SHEN can likely assist you if your cramping and emotional flare-ups worsen when you’re stressed or if you began experiencing them after a humiliating or other stressful event, such as getting married, moving to a new country, or being bullied at school or work.

Pilot Study: Several years ago, we conducted a small study involving 26 women whose menstrual complaints were severe enough to interfere with their daily lives. All had SHEN during one of the first two days of symptoms for two consecutive months. All participants experienced emotional memories during the sessions. Six months later, 24 out of the 26 participants reported a significant decrease in symptoms; what had once been a serious problem was now merely a nuisance.

Case Example: A woman who had been visiting for SHEN to alleviate the pain from multiple fractures caused by an auto accident sent me a lovely card saying, “I didn’t tell you, but I was starting my period the day I came for SHEN. After I left, I felt so good about myself that I went shopping and bought myself a new suit, instead of staying at home feeling sick, as I usually did on that day.”
